Vistra's Brightside Solar Facility Begins Operations in Texas
LCG, April 14, 2022--Vistra yesterday announced that its Brightside Solar Facility in Live Oak County, Texas, is now online and delivering power to the grid. The initial solar PV project construction began in January 2021. The project is part of the company's growing portfolio of zero-carbon power generation assets, known as Vistra Zero. Vistra plans to expand its zero-carbon fleet capacity to over 7,300 MW by 2026.
The 50-MW Brightside Solar Facility is the first of Vistra's seven new renewable and energy storage projects scheduled to commence operations in Texas over the next few years. The projects, all located within the ERCOT market, are part of a near $1 billion capital investment by Vistra first announced in September 2020.
Two other Vistra projects are scheduled to begin operations this spring. The DeCordova Energy Storage Facility is located in Hood County. The battery energy storage system (260 MW/260 MW-hours) will be built on the site of a natural gas power plant operated by a Vistra power generation subsidiary. In addition, the 108-MW Emerald Grove Solar Facility, located in Crane County, is expected to begin operations soon.

The Brightside Solar Facility uses solar panel technology from First Solar. Burns & McDonnell provided engineering and construction expertise. The new facility is located on 430 acres in Live Oak County and includes 147,732 solar PV panels.
