Cinergy to Build Replacements for BP Power Plants
LCG, Feb. 13, 2001Cinergy Corp. said yesterday its Cinergy Solutions unit would build and operate 800 megawatts of new generation at two Texas facilities belonging to BP Amoco Plc. The new units will replace aging power plants and will cut emissions significantly, the company said.Cinergy said new natural gas-fueled cogeneration units would be installed at BP's Texas City and Chocolate Bayou refinery and chemical plants, providing more than 3.5 million pounds of process steam per hour to the petroleum giant's operations."Our record is to offer the most efficiently produced, reliable energy we can at the lowest possiblecost," Steve Harkness, Cinergy Solutions' president and chief operating officer said in a news release. "We know that it's possible to achieve efficiency while making environmental excellence and safety priorities."The Chocolate Bayou project is expected to be completed in 2002 and that of Texas City in 2004.
