Attorney General Files Another Utility Lawsuit

LCG, March 25, 2002-On Friday California Attorney General Bill Lockyer continued his statewide attempt to take utilities to task by filing suit against the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).

Lockyer alleged that LADWP, the biggest municipal utility in the country, overcharged by over $60 million in special fees. Surplus energy produced by the utility was often sold to the state.

1996 legislation, limiting private utilities, exempted the municipal LADWP from many of its rules.
