Dominion Has Peakers Up in Penn., Ohio, W.Va.
LCG, June 21, 2002--Three announcements were released by Dominion Energy on a total of 1,500 megawatts of new gas-fired peaking capacity in the neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.In Pennsylvania's Armstrong County, a 600-megawatt facility, made up of four General Electric Model GE 7 FA combustion turbines, has begun operation. The plant site is about 33 miles north of Pittsburgh. Natural gas is accessible through a nearby Consolidated Natural Gas Company pipeline, and CNG's South Bend Compressor Station.A second Dominion plant that is also rated at 600 megawatts, and which consists of four combustion turbines, is up in Troy Township, Ohio. The plant will typically provide power during peak demand, during periods of extremely high or low temperatures. Troy is located in southwest Ohio, about 10 miles north of Dayton International Airport.In Pleasants County, West Virginia, Dominion also has two General Electric model GE 7FA combustion turbines capable of producing 300 megawatts. Pleasants County is in the Mid-Ohio Valley region, on the border with Ohio.Dominion Energy serves as an electric power generation and natural gas transportation business of Dominion, whose subsidiaries serve customers in five states.megawatts are online.
