Ontario Plans 40-MW Solar Project
LCG, April 28, 2007--The Ontario Ministry of Energy announced yesterday that it has committed to a solar project with a capacity of 40 MW through its Renewable Standard Offer Program. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2010. Since February, thirty six renewable energy projects, with a combined electric generating capacity of 250 MW, have been awarded through the Standard Offer Program.
The solar project will be installed in Sarnia by OptiSolar Farms. The project will consist of four solar farms and include over one million ground-mounted solar panels designed to convert solar energy into electricity.
The Ontario Ministry of Energy also announced that other renewable energy projects were awarded contracts through the Standard Offer Program, including: two residential-sized solar photovoltaic installations, several 10-MW wind farms and two waterpower projects with First Nations participation. All of the contracted projects are scheduled to be in service by 2010.
