Dominion Plans 300-MW Wind Project in Illinois
LCG, April 11, 2008--Dominion Wednesday announced plans to construct the Prairie Fork Wind Farm, a wind generation project with a proposed electric generating capacity of 300 MW. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2010 and operations are scheduled to commence in 2011, given timely approvals.
The Prairie Fork Wind Farm will be developed by Dominion Energy, Inc., a subsidiary of Dominion. The project will include 150 to 200 wind turbines, with a project footprint covering about 25,000 acres in central Illinois, approximately 25 miles southeast of Springfield.
According to Dominion, the Prairie Fork project would increase Dominion?s renewable generation capacity to nearly 1,300 MW in operation or under development. A Dominion representative stated that, "Dominion is aggressively pursuing opportunities to add to its growing portfolio of emissions-free, renewable generation. We recognize that clean energy sources such as wind power are important in meeting our nation?s energy needs and in attaining a balanced, diverse energy portfolio. Diversity offers the most viable approach to greater energy security and stable energy prices. Prairie Fork Wind Farm represents another important step forward in our long-term strategy."
