Construction Begins at Red Hills Wind Farm
LCG, October 2, 2008--ACCIONA Energy began construction September 24 on the Red Hills Wind Farm, located near Elk City, Oklahoma. The $250 million project has an electric generating capacity of 123-MW and an estimated cost of approximately $250 million.
The Red Hills Wind Farm will consist of 82 wind turbines manufactured by ACCIONA. Thirty-four of the 1.5-MW turbines will be produced at the new manufacturing facility in West Branch, Iowa, with the remainder manufactured at ACCIONA's plant in Spain.
ACCIONA plans to start manufacturing its new, 3-MW turbine at the West Branch facility next year. The dimensions of the 3-Mw, AW-3000 are impressive. Three rotor diameter options are available: 100, 109 and 116 meters. The turbine is supplied with a tower that provides a hub height of either 100 or 120 meters. Deliveries of the first machines are expected in the second half of 2010.
