New Jersey Solar Project Approved by Local Authority
LCG, December 15, 2010--Lincoln Renewable Energy (LRE) yesterday announced that its site-plan application was approved last Thursday by the Mannington Township Planning Board unanimously approved its site-plan application for the 10-MW NJ Cedar Solar farm located in Salem County.
The estimated cost of the NJ Cedar Solar project is $60 million, and it will be installed on a 129-acre site. Construction is scheduled to commence early next year.
In October, LRE's site-plan for the 10-MW NJ Oak Solar project in nearby Cumberland County was approved.
In spite of New Jersey's limited insolation, New Jersey is an attractive location for solar projects. New Jersey has a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) that requires electricity suppliers serving retail customers in the state to include in the electricity it sells 22.5% qualifying renewables by 2021. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has since increased the required separate percentage of solar electricity (2.12% by 2021), and in January 2010 the legislature revised the solar portion of the standard such that there is an ultimate goal of 5,316 GWh of solar generation in 2026.
