Duke Energy Announces 110-MW Wind Project in Texas
LCG, September 4, 2014-Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, announced yesterday that it will construct, own and operate a 110-MW wind power project in Starr County, Texas. The power generated from the wind farm, Los Vientos V, will be purchased by Garland Power & Light, Greenville Electric Utility System and Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU). Each purchaser has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project is expected to be completed in late 2015.
The Los Vientos V wind power project will include 55 2-MW wind turbines manufactured by Vestas.
In Willacy County, Texas, Duke completed Los Vientos I (200 MW) and II (202 MW) in 2012. Los Vientos III and IV (each with a capacity of 200 MW) are two additional Duke Energy projects in Starr County, Texas, with in-service dates in late 2015 and 2016, respectively. Once these projects are all in service, Duke Energy's total wind-generated capacity will exceed 2,100 MW.
