Duke Energy Renewables Announces Solar Power Agreement with Corning
LCG, December 15, 2015--Duke Energy announced yesterday that it has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for solar-generated electricity produced by Duke Energy Renewables. Corning will purchase 62.5 percent of the output from the 80-MW Conetoe Solar project, which is expected to be the largest solar project east of the Mississippi River. The project is expected to begin delivering power to the grid in the first quarter of next year.
The Conetoe Solar project is being constructed by Duke Energy Renewables on a 595-acre site in Edgecombe and Pitt Counties, North Carolina. Duke Energy Renewables purchased the development rights for The Conetoe Solar project in May 2015. The project was originally developed by SunEnergy1.
Corning's senior vice president, chief strategy officer stated, "Corning is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, and this is a major step in that direction. Going green makes good business sense because it encourages efficiencies and clean power usage that eventually lower costs. We believe this decision fits our corporate mission to be a good steward of the environment."
Duke Energy's president of Commercial Portfolio stated, "Serving Corning's commitment to clean energy is a great example of the customer-centric solutions we can offer to organizations. In delivering this quality project, we're proud to bring more solar power to North Carolina as we partner with Corning to advance their environmental stewardship."
